Will natural dyes wash out?

Dirt Petal primarily uses washfast natural dyes, meaning our dyes will not wash out. Every item has been pre-treated with a special mordant process to create a permanent bond between fabric and dye. Natural dyes are living colors however so expect a slight variation over time.

How do I best care for my items? Wash instructions?

Best practice is to launder only when necessary. Hand-wash or turn item inside out and machine wash on delicate cycle with cold water. Use a pH neutral detergent—-most gentle and eco-friendly detergents should be fine. Avoid harsh chemicals and anything with optical brighteners. Line dry or tumble on low.
Like any dye, items will fade if left out in the sun.
Also be careful around acids like lemon juice, as they will bleach natural dyes!

How do I wash silk?

It’s best to hand-wash silk or machine wash on delicate cycle in cold water with a gentle detergent.

*Optional—— After washing, you can add a bit of your own hair conditioner to the wet silk. Work it throughout and rinse in cold water. This helps enhance the silk’s natural softness and luster. Silk is a protein fiber just like our own hair and it benefits from this extra conditioning.

Hang to dry. (It generally dries quite fast.)
